What Does SuperLawyer Designation Mean?

SuperLawyers is a lawyer rating service that provides lawyers and the public with a credible and comprehensive resource for identifying outstanding lawyers in the legal community. The designation of SuperLawyer is reserved for only the most exceptional, highly-rated lawyers, and selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis. The SuperLawyers selection process is highly selective, and the designation of SuperLawyer is awarded to no more than 5% of the top lawyers in any given state each year. It is an honor based on peer-recognition.

What makes the SuperLawyers designation so well-respected and esteemed is that lawyers must be nominated by their peers in the legal community, which means that fellow lawyers must hold nominees in high-regard in order to earn a nomination. Only top lawyers are nominated who have demonstrated commitment to their clients, dedication to their practice, and integrity in their work ethic. Nominations are never solicited, and must come from someone other than the nominee (i.e., nominees cannot nominate themselves).

The SuperLawyers Selection Process

After being nominated by peers, nominees are evaluated by their peers and thoroughly vetted by an independent research process where candidates for SuperLawyer status are graded on a 12-point system that evaluates nominee’s peer recognition and professional achievements. Some of the achievements that are used to assess SuperLawyer candidates include:

  • The candidate’s experience;
  • Honors and awards received by the candidate;
  • Special licenses and certifications held by the candidate;
  • Verdicts and settlements obtained by the candidate;
  • The candidate’s position within their firm;
  • The candidate’s educational background and employment history;
  • Pro bono and community service performed by the candidate;
  • The candidate’s bar admissions and participation in professional organizations and activities; and
  • The candidate’s contribution to legal scholarship through writings and lectures.

The Florida legal community has spoken, and Orlando criminal defense attorneys Andrew Moses and Jay Rooth have each been recognized for their commitment to excellence in every aspect of their legal practice and have earned the rating of SuperLawyers.
